Description
a blend of high-quality harvests aged a minimum of 7–8 years at Quinta do Tedo — beyond the 6-year industry minimum for the Reserve style. Our entry into Tawny skips the basic style (legal minimum 3 years) and lands straight at Tawny Reserve level. Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta da Barca and Rufete. Terroir: schist soils, arid Mediterranean climate, grade-A vineyards. Winemaking: foot-trodden 3–4 hours a day for 2 days in traditional lagares, fermented 2 days with native yeasts, fortified with grape brandy at half sugar; aged in neutral French oak 500-litre puncheons and 228-litre barrels before blending. 14,000 bottles a year. Alcohol: 19.5%.
