Description
Year: 1997 — our first-ever Vintage Porto, and a classic Vintage from an unusual year: a dry, warm early spring, a wet, cool early summer, then August heat in full force for a generous, high-quality harvest. Grapes: 18+ varieties led by Touriga Nacional, from 40+-year-old field-blended vines. Terroir: schist soils, arid Mediterranean climate, grade-A vineyards. Winemaking: foot-trodden 3 days in lagares, fermented 3 days under temperature control, aged in 7,000-litre foudres, bottled unfiltered within 2 years. 4,000 bottles. Alcohol: 20%.
