18 varietals, 12 small parcels
On steep terraces of rocky schist, our closely spaced vines — 18 local red varietals led by Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Sousão, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca — grow in 12 small parcels of 0.5–2 hectares, usually vinified separately.
When replanting, we reintroduce local varietals well adapted to the Douro’s hot, dry Mediterranean climate that hold their freshness through maturation. Our mature vineyards yield small quantities of deeply concentrated, complex fruit.
Organic Certification
Certified organic since 2011
After a three-year conversion begun in 2008, Quinta do Tedo’s vineyards and olive orchards hold Certified Organic status with Kiwa Sativa — a pioneer of the European organic movement, based in Lisbon and recognised by the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture to certify under EU Regulation 2018/848.
We strictly control what touches our vines and regularly test soil, vines and grapes — to keep the whole vineyard ecosystem healthy.
Biosphere Sustainable
Certified across everything we do
Viticulture, winemaking, wine tourism, Bed & Breakfast and Bistro — since July 2023.
Biosphere is the longest-standing certification of its kind and, since 2017, the leading global system for comprehensive socio-economic and environmental sustainability goals. Promoted by the Responsible Tourism Institute — a founding member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council — it ties companies and destinations to the UN 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, helping travellers choose responsibly.

The IVDP & the Benefício
Authentic Porto is like Champagne
It can only be produced in one demarcated region — the Douro Valley. Its production, styles and sales are controlled by the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto (IVDP), guaranteeing authenticity, protected geographical status and price stability.
Every vineyard is scored from A to F across 12 criteria — soil, climate and agricultural parameters essential to grape quality. Class “A” vineyards, like Quinta do Tedo’s, receive higher benefício coefficients: a quota the IVDP announces before each harvest, limiting how much Porto may be made.

Tedo Valley Ecological Reserve
A self-guided hiking trail, the first of its kind in the Armamar municipality, through organic vineyards and olive orchards along the Tedo river — to tune in to the sound, colour and movement of the valley’s birds.
